Are you willing to spend most of a Sunday night on the mountain carrying out a hiker with a sprained ankle? Have you spent a lot of time climbing or hiking in the mountains? Do you have experience in emergency medicine?
Do you want to help people who need to be rescued in the mountains? If you can answer yes to one of the above questions AMRC would like you to attend one of our general meetings so you can find out more on how you can help your community!
Expectations
We do not expect new members to be experienced mountain rescuers, but we do have these expectations:
- You must be in good physical condition.
- Have the appropriate equipment and skills to self sufficient in the mountains for at least 48 hours in all seasons.
- Own personnel technical rescue gear, including a helmet!
- You must also be committed and willing to give up your time to attend meeting, trainings, and missions. Each member of the team is required to attend at least two general meetings, two practices, and two missions a year to remain on the team.
Membership Process
In order to become a full member of Albuquerque Mountain Rescue you need to:
- Attend two general meetings and two trainings as a prospective member. Make sure you sign in and introduce yourself to the New Member Coordinator.
- Fill out a membership application and turn it in to the New Member Coordinator.
- After your application is turned in, the team board of directors will interview you in order to gauge commitment, experience, and motivation level.
- Upon completion of the last two steps the board of directors will vote to promote you to In-Training Status.
- Once in training you must attend two more general meetings and two more trainings, plus you must also field on two missions. In order to field on missions you must attend the rescue support class (given twice a year). Upon completion of the rescue support class, you will receive a team pager and are then eligible to field on missions.
- Once you meet the requirements detailed in the previous step, you will be automatically moved up to Rescue Technician (full member status). It is encouraged that all members continue to enhance their rescue skills and move up to the Rescue Specialist level.
- In order to remain on the team you must: attend at least two general meetings, two practices, and two missions a year.
